ISGA Response to Australian Online Safety Amendment (Digital Duty of Care) Bill 2026 Consultation
On behalf of members, the International Social Games Association (ISGA) has submitted a formal response to be considered as part of the Australian government’s consultation on the Digital Duty of Care Bill 2026.
Key points in the ISGA’s submission include :
The ISGA supports efforts to improve online safety and reduce the risk of harm to children and vulnerable users
Any framework should be proportionate, evidence-based and tailored to the level of risk posed by different online services
Existing industry safeguards, parental controls, age assurance measures and consumer protection practices should be recognised within the framework
Social games present a markedly different risk profile from social media, messaging services and other user-generated content platforms, and regulation should reflect these differences
The legislation should provide greater clarity around risk assessments, mitigation obligations and enforcement mechanisms to ensure regulatory certainty
The framework should support innovation and investment while maintaining high standards of consumer protection
International consistency and interoperability should be considered to reduce unnecessary compliance burdens and facilitate effective implementation
