Supporting Safer Internet Day around the World: How the ISGA Champions a Safer Digital World

Safer Internet Day – taking place this year on 10 February 2026 – is a global initiative led in Australia by the eSafety Commissioner, bringing together schools, communities, families, industry and governments to promote safer, more positive online experiences for all. With more than 180 countries participating, it serves as an annual reminder of the shared responsibility all stakeholders have in ensuring digital spaces are respectful, secure and empowering.

In Australia and around the world, Safer Internet Day highlights the importance of conversations about online wellbeing, practical safety habits, and the evolving risks young people face in an increasingly connected environment. The eSafety Commissioner encourages five simple actions – being kind, balancing time online, speaking up, protecting your space, and starting the conversation – all designed to help Australians build safer online interactions.

At the International Social Games Association (ISGA), we strongly support the goals and principles of Safer Internet Day. Our mission centres on promoting safe, responsible, and transparent practices across the global mobile games sector — ensuring that players of all ages can safely enjoy digital games with confidence.

A core part of this commitment is our Smart Mobile Gamers initiative, an ISGA-led online resource developed with leading digital safety organisations and experts. The platform provides practical guidance for parents, carers, educators and players on topics such as managing in‑game spending, using parental controls, understanding age ratings and recognising potential risks. Its focus on education and empowerment directly aligns with Safer Internet Day’s call to equip communities with the tools they need to stay safe online. It is also consistent with the ISGA’s strong long-standing commitment to leading self-regulation for the global mobile games industry.

Another key component of ISGA-led industry self-regulation are the ISGA Best Practice Principles, which are regularly updated and promoted. These industry standards are founded on consumer protection, accountability and transparency. These principles guide social games providers in areas such as advertising, privacy compliance, in‑app purchases and player safeguards. First developed in 2013 and continuously refined to reflect new technologies and behaviours, the Principles help ensure that online games are designed and operated responsibly, supporting safer digital ecosystems worldwide.

“At the ISGA, we believe that every online interaction should be safe and positive. Safer Internet Day is a powerful reminder that when industry, communities, and families work together, we can create digital spaces where everyone – especially young people – can thrive with confidence.”
